At long last the hump on Barroway Drove has gone. The contractors started on the work this Tuesday (31st August 2010) and finished on the first.
The repair has gone very well and the new road surface is something to behold. If you look at the photographs in the gallery you can see they've almost taken nothing off with the planer at some points and 150mm elsewhere to smooth the surface.
They've also installed a fiberglass membrane between the sublayer and the top running surface to lock them together across the width of the road. The intention of the membrane is to stop the road heaving so much hopefully stopping the hump reappearing.
Lets hope this best bit of road in the Village isn't destroyed come the end of October when the A1122 work starts, it would be a crying shame to see all that work and £44,000 go to waste.
In the meantime Anglia Water managed to find the leak in the mains water pipe running past the farm (see the flood picture) without damaging the road too much. The water had got quite deep in places with over 50mm of water across most of their lawn.

Expect eight weeks of disruption this coming October. The A1122 will be closed around Salters Lode for six weeks and then the road will be closed at the end of "The Drove" Barroway Drove for a further two weeks along with the bridge across the river.
Although a diversion route will be in place it's via the A1101, A47 to King's Lynn then back down the A10 to Downham Market. This 30 mile detour is unlikely to be popular so expect the A1122 traffic to use the much shorter three mile diversion through Barroway Drove.
The work is being carried out by Mott MacDonald and their contact for the work is Andrew Howes - 01603 223246 - andew.howes@mottmac.com
There is also likely to be distruption to the school bus that comes through the village in the morning, especially during the second closure at end of "The Drove" but when more information is available we'll post it on the site.

The time has come around again for the Barroway Drove Village Flower, Produce and Craft Show.
The event is taking place on the 22nd August at the Village Hall. The show schedule has been posted on the forum gallery here - http://barrowaydrove.org/smf/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=album;id=11 and there is a PDF version if you prefer in the events post here http://barrowaydrove.org/smf/index.php/topic,390.0.html
The show is usually very well supported, even if you aren't intending to enter into the competition why not come along and see the entries once the show opens to the public.
This year there will be 28 teams and each race will be competed by four dragon boats. Kerry Heffernan of Downham Market Town Council said “four boats in each race will make for some really exciting racing and will be great to watch. So the message from the organising working party is ‘Come on. Get your team entries in quickly – we only have a few team spaces left’
The Water Festival is an annual event and is free of charge for spectators who will also find lots to entertain them ashore as well as watching the racing. Nobody goes hungry with a good selection of food outlets doing a roaring trade. Lots of stalls, a roundabout, trampoline bouncing and funfair complete the line up. A complete fun day for all the family – and entry is free! Programmes are available in mid July from LEWKS in Wales Court, Downham Market.
Howard Phillips, Chairman of the Working Party, said ‘we are all volunteers and thoroughly enjoy organising this special day every year. I should like to thank Downham Market Town Council for their backing without which we could not hold the event. And special thanks too to Archant for their generous sponsorship, and the Borough of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk too’.
